Why Vote Chili?

You’ve probably arrived here because a friend has asked you to consider “Voting Chili”. Since elections are a choice, I’d ask that you consider this video and the text below it as you make yours:

1) I’m not a politician. I believe that a big part of the reason we have so many major national challenges is because we have too many career politicians in Washington that specialize in getting reelected. My opponent, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is a 20+ year politician.

2) I haven’t taken a single penny from the special interests. I’ve refused all PAC money — whether from corporations, labor unions, or any kind of special interests. Washington operates under the “golden rule”– he who has the gold, writes the rules. This legalized bribery must end. I am the only Democrat running for Congress (credible campaigns: raised $100K+, etc) in the nation, who has actually walked the talk and refused to take a penny. I will work for the people of the 2nd District alone.

3) I have not sought, nor accepted any support from the national Democratic party. I am not beholden to them in any way and will take every single vote based on what is in the best interests of the people of the 2nd District. Period. I am free of all entanglements based on the way I’ve run my campaign. I am a true Independent.

4) I’ve pledged to introduce legislation to a) cut the debt; b) create the tax, regulatory and fair-trade conditions to support American manufacturing jobs; c) have true campaign finance reform in my first term. If I fail to do this, I’ll fire myself. I won’t run for reelection.

5) I have real-world experience and proposed real solutions to our challenges. I’ve worked at companies like Procter & Gamble where I learned about accountability and getting things done. It’s not about saying the right things, it’s about solving real challenges and wading through the details to get there. That’s why I’ve put up detailed policy positions across my website.

Or, just click here to watch the only debate between us. You’ll hear both of our answers. Impartial You decide from there.

I humbly ask for your vote.

As you are aware, since many Republican candidates have few concrete issues to run on, they are resorting to a huge blitz of psychological warfare, seeking to turn public sentiment negative against the government in general by massive amounts of negative ads, and then making the case that since the Democrats “control the government” voters should turn them out and try something different. But this ignores the history of the policies and those responsible for putting the country and the government into this precarious situation, with massive federal debt, high unemployment, etc. This strategy can be countered only by understanding and countering the misinformation, making clear the history and causes of the current problems, and making sure to end ads and speeches with positive statements of goals and accomplishments.
